Russia, India mull possible gas projects in Arctic zone

VLADIVOSTOK, Aug 12 (PRIME) -- Russia and India are discussing joint natural gas projects in the Arctic, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal told PRIME on Monday.

“We have strong energy partnership with Russia…The Russian side is a reliable partner in the energy sphere. We are trying to base our economy exclusively on gas. We want each house to have a gas pipeline, we want our industry to be based on gas. I think that the energy minister and the energy companies will discuss this topic even before the annual summit of our leaders,” he said.

India is interested in gas projects in Russia’s Arctic zone. “Our ministers in charge of the energy sphere are already holding negotiations with the companies here. The ministers are discussing what we could do here, especially in the Arctic region, in the sphere of exploration of gas and of supplies to India with the Russian energy companies,” he said.

India would like Russia to play an important role in transformation of the country’s economy into a gas-powered one, he added.
